Import leads from a spreadsheet

Bring your existing customer list into HoundBell from Excel, Google Sheets, or another CRM. Imports are CSV files; every spreadsheet tool can produce one.
- On the Leads page, click โฌ Import.
- Click Choose a CSV file. Coming from Excel or Google Sheets? Use File, then Save as CSV. Exporting from another CRM? Look for Export as CSV. Your file’s first line should be a header row (Name, Email, and so on). Up to 1,000 leads per import, 2MB max.
- Match your columns. The app reads your headers and guesses: a “Customer Name” column maps to Name, “E-mail Address” to Email, “Estimate Amount” to Value, and so on. Fix any guess with the dropdowns. Columns that are not standard fields (phone numbers, referral source, notes) map to Extra detail (kept on lead), which stores them on each lead’s card so nothing in your spreadsheet is lost. Map a column to Skip this column to leave it behind.
- Click Next: preview. Choose which pipeline the imports land in (they enter at its first stage), set a Tag for this batch (the default tag is “imported”), and leave Skip duplicates (by email) checked to avoid re-importing people already in HoundBell. The summary tells you exactly what will happen: how many are ready, how many are duplicates, how many rows had no name or email.
- Click Import.
Dollar values are cleaned automatically (“$1,250.00” becomes 1250). Rows missing both a name and an email are skipped and reported.
The batch tag is your safety net: search it on the Leads page to see exactly what an import brought in, and if an import went wrong, select the whole batch and delete it (see Select and delete leads in bulk).
