Using WordPress? The optional one-click plugin

You do not need the plugin. The one line of code in Put a form on any website works on WordPress. The plugin adds a shortcode and keeps forms in sync without touching code.

You need: a WordPress website you can log into as an administrator, and about a minute. No developer required, and no passwords to copy.

1. In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins, then Add New, and search for HoundBell. Click Install Now, then Activate. The plugin is in the official WordPress directory at wordpress.org/plugins/houndbell, so updates arrive through WordPress like any other plugin.
2. The HoundBell page opens on its own (it is also under Settings, HoundBell, and there is a Connect to HoundBell link on the Plugins list). Press Connect to HoundBell.
3. HoundBell opens. Sign in, or create your free account. If you have more than one business, pick the one this site belongs to. Press Connect this site.
4. You land back in WordPress with a green “Connected” notice. In HoundBell, the site now shows on the Sites page with a green Connected badge.

What happens behind the scenes: the button gives HoundBell a one-time link that is good for ten minutes. HoundBell uses it once to collect a private key from your site, server to server. Your WordPress password is never involved and nothing is stored until you press Connect.

Just created your account? Finish the short business setup first, then press Connect to HoundBell in WordPress once more.

If your host blocks the plugin directory, the Sites page in HoundBell has a zip to upload by hand under Plugins, Add New, Upload Plugin. If the button cannot be used at all, the Sites page also has Connect by hand, which takes a WordPress application password (Users, Profile, Application Passwords) instead.

Tip: you can connect more than one site to a workspace, and each form chooses which site it appears on.
